I am trying to find out something about Sam Shackelford of Missouri during the civil war. My grandfather was told by his father that Sam was an uncle and rode with Charles Quantrell "of dreadful and hated memory".
Sam was captured on the occasion of a surprise attack, by Union Troops because his horse became panic stricken and he was unable to mount. He was known as the "Long Missourian".
The person who said Sam Shackelford was an uncle was Alan Keyes born in Hardin Missouri 1878, married to June Lucy Adele Dougherty.
The parents of Alan Keyes were Thomas Harvey Keyes and Sallie Caldwell King.
If anyone has this Sam Shackelford in their records, I would appreciate hearing from you.
